Australian company Traxion has taken charge of negotiating developments for the Riverina Intermodal Freight and Logistics Hub.

The Federal Government has put up $14.5 for the $54 million effort to build an advanced rail, road and port site in New South Wales.

The project includes the construction of a rail and infrastructure package, an intermodal container terminal, agricultural bulk goods precinct, a rail related development precinct, and enabling road infrastructure to capitalise on Wagga Wagga's ready access to the Sturt and Olympic Highways.

The Riverina Intermodal Freight and Logistics Hub is expected to be the only intermodal terminal on the main southern railway line that can load and unload trains 1,800 metres in length, the current maximum.

“[The Traxion] management team has a long and proud history in the Australian railway industry, and their involvement means the right infrastructure can be delivered at the right time,” Federal Member for Riverina Michael McCormack said.

“The new freight hub will deliver highly accessible facilities, offer connectivity with most of Australia's major cities and provide good road, rail and air connections,” Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development Warren Truss said.

“In addition to creating long term employment opportunities and addressing existing road and rail safety issues, it will improve import and export services to Port Botany, Port of Melbourne and other ports, thereby helping to reduce the cost of logistics in the supply chain.”
