Big spend on gas consultants
The Federal Government is spending millions on gas industry consultants to tell it how to subsidise the gas industry.
The Coalition government has allocated over $9 million for private advisers from the Boston Consulting Group (BCG) to advise on “gas modelling”, “business delivery” and “infrastructure”.
The specific terms of the contracts with BCG have not been revealed. However, reports say BCG is designing the National Gas Infrastructure Plan (NGIP); a plan for the government to subsidise gas infrastructure.
Millions of dollars have been awarded to BCG without an open tender.
The NGIP is part of a planned ‘Gas Fired Recovery’, which the Morrison Government has been pushing as a way to restore the economy after the COVID-19 pandemic.
This is despite the fact that the gas industry employs just 0.2 per cent of the Australian workforce.
