Farm transport allowance means no books for some
In Queensland, changes to work diary requirements for truck drivers are in effect.
Truck drivers moving loads for primary producers will not have to fill out a work diary if they are travelling less than 160km from base.
The exemption for primary producers’ freight was introduced on June 1 following strong industry feedback.
The idea had been planned around a100km radius for Queensland primary producers and drivers, but the livestock transport industry raised concerns that this would not be far enough to cover normal operations for many producers. .
The National Heavy Vehicle Regulator (NHVR) says the exemption will cut red tape through less paperwork, but crucially will not compromise driver or public safety.
All other drivers must still fill out their work diary for work 100km beyond their base.
