Fibre-optic crews left $15 million short
Unions Tasmania is claiming the company tasked with rolling out the National Broadband Network owes workers millions of dollars, which the company has called an “invoicing-related matter”.
Union representative Kevin Harkins has said some sub-contractors to Visionstream (Tasmania’s NBN contractor) have not been paid for over four months, asking the Federal Government to intervene and help out 500 workers left short. If Mr Harkins is correct Visionstream could owe around $15 million.
Visionstream have rejected the claims, saying they are just working through some “invoicing-related matters” from a short-term issue with payment processing earlier in the year.
Tasmanian Premier Lara Giddings says she would like to speak with Federal Communications Minister Anthony Albanese over the issue; Mr Albanese’s office has said it is a commercial matter.
