Government building on safer basis
The Federal Government has put out new resources to keep Commonwealth-funded building projects safe.
FSC Online is a new online accreditation management system developed by the Federal Safety Commissioner for businesses undertaking billions of dollars of Government building and construction work.
FSC Online is accessible here.
Minister for Employment Senator Eric Abetz says FSC Online will help industry participants to apply for and manage their existing accreditation under the Australian Government Building and Construction WHS Accreditation Scheme.
The scheme seeks to ensure that companies undertaking Commonwealth-funded work comply with the highest workplace safety standards.
Any companies wishing to work on Commonwealth buildings must be accredited under the scheme.
At the moment, over 360 companies have accreditation, accounting for around 30 to 50 per cent of annual turnover in the industry.
The Federal Government has unveiled some tweaks to its accreditation scheme too, introducing a risk-based compliance model that provides earned autonomy to companies with a strong compliance track-record.
In addition, unaccredited companies are now able to joint-venture with accredited companies.
“The Government is committed to using its purchasing power to drive the highest standards of safety in the building industry. These changes further improve safety by encouraging more building companies to seek accreditation and strive for best practice safety approaches,” Minister Abetz said.
