Tim Wilson has become the assistant minister for energy and emissions reduction.
A ministerial shake-up announced by Prime Minister Scott Morrison late last week saw Angus Taylor add the industry portfolio to his existing responsibilities as minister for energy and emissions reduction.
Mr Taylor is now in charge of the $1.5 billion Modern Manufacturing Strategy, and will oversee the Morrison government’s planned Clean Energy Summit in 2022.
Tim Wilson will assist Mr Taylor as assistant minister for industry, energy and emissions reduction.
Mr Wilson once led the efforts of the Liberal party-aligned Institute of Public Affairs (IPA) to undermine Australia’s climate policies by speaking out against everything from the Gillard government’s carbon price package and to the Abbott government’s Direct Action policy.
Mr Wilson has previously called for the abolition of a number of government authorities that will now be under his influence, including the Climate Change Authority, the federal Renewable Energy Target, the Australian Renewable Energy Agency and the Clean Energy Finance Corporation.
