Legal action over hot air on gas
Former NSW deputy premier Andrew Stoner is suing broadcaster Alan Jones and a Greens MP for defamation over coal seam gas claims.
Mr Stoner has launched legal action against the prominent 2GB broadcaster and Upper House Greens MP Jeremy Buckingham.
Stoner took action in response to criticisms Mr Jones and Mr Buckingham made of his actions on coal seam gas and coal mining.
Mr Stoner claims five broadcasts on Jones' program last year conveyed the image that he was not fit to lead the National Party.
One of those shows featured an interview with Mr Buckingham.
Mr Buckingham has responded on Twitter, writing: “The National Party are trying to gag me from speaking out on coal, the Liverpool Plains & CSG. I will not be silenced.”
The legal move mirrors action taken by Queensland’s former premier Campbell Newman, who is also suing Jones for defamation relating to coal seam gas policy.
There has been no comment yet from 2GB operator Macquarie Radio.
