Safety seen as big winner in Qld. builds
Two firms have been recognised for their safety-conscious engineering efforts in Queensland.
A Safety in Design award has been given to firms Parsons Brinckerhoff and Arup for Brisbane’s Airport Link, Northern Busway and Airport Roundtable.
Parsons Brinckerhoff and Arup Joint Venture Technical Director, Marty Scrogings said that integration of safety into all stages of the project is critical to any success.
“The benefits of simply thinking through the process of design, construction and operation at the earliest stages, and confirming them at key points, enabled the design team to effectively contribute towards the safe construction and operation of this project,” said Mr Scrogings.
“Engineering in its purest sense is about problem solving, and in delivering this project, we embraced this most fundamental principle.”
It is not the first accolade for the multi-part joint effort by Arup and Parsons Brinckerhoff.
The air Airport Link, Northern Busway (Windsor to Kedron) and Airport Roundabout Upgrade project was the recipient of the 2012 Sustaining Our Society prize from international engineering consultant group Bentley’s Be Inspired: Innovations in Infrastructure Awards.
The $4.8 billion dollar link was the result of input from a large range of consultants and contractors, and for some shows the importance of continued investment in similar infrastructure works in Queensland and around the country.
