The South Australian Government has announced that TAFE SA will officially become a statutory corporation from November 1, as part of the government’s Skills for All package of reforms to vocational education and training.

State Higher Education and Skills Minister, Tom Kenyon, said that under the TAFE SA Act 2012, TAFE SA will become more responsive to industry needs through greater autonomy.

“A vibrant TAFE capable of responding quickly to changing student and industry demands is vital under Skills for All which aims to significantly increase the number of people in training leading to higher level skills aligned to industry demand,” Mr Kenyon said.

“The establishment of TAFE SA as a statutory corporation will separate the roles of TAFE as the provider of training from the Department of Further Education, Employment, Science and Technology (DFEEST) as the funder and purchaser of training from both TAFE SA and private training providers.”

Mr Kenyon also announced the appointment of an independent Board of Directors that will govern TAFE SA on behalf of the State Government and regularly report to the Minister on performance.

The new Board is: Mr Peter Vaughan (Chair) and Directors, Mr Rob Chapman, Ms Joanne Denley, Ms Miriam Silva, Ms Noelene Buddle, Mr John Branson, Mr Adrian Marron and Ms Annette Hurley.
