The Opportunity
Cochlear is looking for an Senior Industrial Engineer to review, recommend and implement methods, layouts and resources required in the manufacturing areas with the view of improving conditions, efficiency and flexibility.
The Senior Industrial Engineer is also responsible for resolving production issues and problems as they arise in a collaborative effort with the Manufacturing Manager and all support staff.
This newly created role is a permanent full-time role based in our global headquarters in Macquarie University and Lane Cove site.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct assessment of all manufacturing areas for potential efficiency improvements
- Record and maintain manufacturing process data, including cycle times and OEE
- Map processes (including Value Stream Map, SIPOC and Spaghetti Map)
- Suggest process and system improvements through the application of Lean tools
- Build and present business cases for improvements quantifying cost and benefit of different options
- Work with internal stakeholders to prioritise and direct continuous improvement activities
- Define metrics or displays that will assist manufacturing (visible schedule, first pass yield or others)
- Amend processes, storage locations, staff structure to promote efficient utilisation
- Draft and design layout of equipment, materials, and workspace to promote maximum efficiency
About You:
As we grow our global operations, we are looking for people with highly specialised skills and capabilities who share our passion for delivering quality hearing solutions to our customers. To add value to Cochlear in this role you'll be able to demonstrate the following skills and experience:
Minimum:
- 3+ years’ experience in a similar role within a manufacturing environment
- Demonstrated success applying Lean methodologies and principles
- Knowledge of Lean tools such as Pillar Charts and Value Stream Mapping
- Demonstrate a strong passion for continuous improvement
- Able to work autonomously and as part of a team
- A strong communicator, who is able to build positive stakeholder relationships
- Ability to work in Cochlear’s Macquarie University and Lane Cove sites
Ideal:
- Experience scheduling a manufacturing environment
- Ability to convert plan to business requirements (labour and machine)
- Ability to analyse and prioritise actions based on data
