Senior Grid Connection Engineer

Your role will involve technical support using PSSE,PSCAD, and Power Factory, ensuring compliance with regulatory frameworks, andoptimizing power systems performance. Main Duties/Responsibilities: We are seeking a Senior Grid Connection Engineer with proven experience in managing grid connection processes and strong stakeholder engagement skills within AEMO/NSP. The ideal candidate will have a solid technical understanding of NER/WEM rules and will lead/manage the grid connection process across all project phases, from business development through to commercial operation.

  • Oversee the entire grid connection process from initial stages to post-commissioning, covering business development, engineering design, construction, and commissioning phases.
  • Conduct preliminary grid data analysis to determine optimal connection points for renewable energy projects.
  • Coordinate with AEMO, network service providers, OEMs, and technical consultants throughout the grid connection process.
  • Handle PSSE, PSCAD models, grid connection studies, and GPS packages management.
  • Provide technical support to asset management teams and collaborate with internal stakeholders to ensure projects meet schedule and budget targets.
  • Assist in tender preparation, financial modeling, and technical documentation for construction contracts.
  • Contribute to power systems studies, impact assessments, and conduct EMT and RMS simulations using PSCAD, PSSE, and DigSILENT-PowerFactory.

Skills & Experience:

  • Minimum three years in grid connection engineering.
  • Degree in Electrical/Power System/Control; post-graduate degrees preferred.
  • Strong understanding of NEM, WEM, and transmission systems.
  • Experience connecting projects to NEM/WEM through AEMO.
  • Familiarity with NER/WEM regulatory frameworks.
  • Experience in connection applications, generator registration, and negotiating performance standards.
  • Hands-on experience in commissioning generating assets.
  • Proficiency in PSS/E, PSCAD, and/or Power Factory for generator and power systems modeling.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
